Sloppy Does With Pepper Relish – A Venison Sloppy Joe Recipe

If your freezer is full of ground venison thanks to y’all’s latest hunting trip, you’re not alone—and you’re probably always on the lookout for new ways to use it. These sloppy does are a fresh and flavorful take on the classic sloppy joe, made with ground venison and topped with a bright cucumber and pepper relish. It’s a perfect recipe for picky eaters and is quick enough for a busy weeknight meal. Add this venison recipe to your hunting season favorites!

Venison Sloppy Joe Recipe

  1. Cook 1 lb of ground venison in a skillet over medium heat until browned. Add 1 small onion, sliced, and 1 small bell pepper, diced, to the skillet and cook until tender.

2. Add 28 oz of crushed tomatoes, 10 oz of Rotel fire roasted diced tomatoes, 1/2 tsp of salt, 1/4 tsp paprika, and 1/4 tsp black pepper to your ground venison. Stir well then cover and simmer for 10 minutes, stirring occasionally.

3. While your venison mixture simmers, start making your cucumber pepper relish. Dice 1 cucumber, coarsely chop 1 cup of roasted red peppers, and slice 4 Tablespoons of pepperoncinis.

4. Toss your cucumbers, roasted red peppers, and pepperoncinis in a large bowl with 4 Tablespoons of olive oil and 4 teaspoons of vinegar. Season with salt and pepper to taste.

5. Add sloppy doe meat to hamburger buns and top with pepper relish. Serve with mashed potatoes and baked beans.

  • 1 lb ground venison
