This hot honey blackberry basil sourdough pizza is not your average pie. The tangy sourdough base provides a hearty foundation, while the hot honey adds a thrilling kick of spice and sweetness. Juicy blackberries bring a burst of fruity flavor, and fresh basil leaves finish it off with a herbaceous touch. If you’re ready to elevate your pizza night to gourmet heights, this Hot Honey Blackberry Basil Sourdough Pizza is your ticket to a culinary adventure.

How to Make Hot Honey Blackberry Basil Sourdough Pizza

  1. To make this sourdough pizza, you’ll start by preheating your oven to 425 degrees with a 12 inch cast iron skillet inside the oven while it preheats. When the oven is done preheating, remove the skillet.

2. Pour 3/4 cup or 150 grams of sourdough discard into the bottom of your skillet. Top your discard with 1 Tablespoon of olive oil and 1 Tablespoon of Italian seasoning. Bake your crust for 10 minutes.

3. After your pizza crust bakes for 10 minutes, remove from the oven. Top your crust with 3/4 cup of marinara sauce, 1/2 cup of shredded cheese, a pint of fresh blackberries, a handful of fresh basil, and a healthy drizzle of hot honey. We use vegan mozzarella cheese for our pizza because of my son’s milk protein allergy.

4. Put pizza back in the oven and bake for an additional 10 minutes.

I have found that this pizza is much easier to cut into neat, pretty triangles if you give it plenty of time to cool.

Using a Pizza Stone or 17″ Cast Iron Skillet

You can make a much larger version of this sourdough pizza by using a pizza stone or a 17″ cast iron skillet. If using a pizza stone or a 17″ cast iron, you’ll use about 700 grams of sourdough discard, or until the bottom of the stone or pan is coated to your liking. After adding the toppings, bake the pizza for 15 additional minutes instead of 10.

Little Cooks Corner

This recipe is great for family pizza night if you have enough cast iron skillets to let everyone in the household create their own pizza combinations. Because of my son’s milk allergy we often make 2 sourdough pizzas, one with vegan cheese and another with regular mozzarella. This hot honey, blackberry, and basil combination is a favorite with my 2 year old.

Notes

  • Use vegan shredded mozzarella to make this recipe dairy free (this recipe is NOT vegan due to the hot honey).
  • I’ve found that the pizza slices much easier if you give it plenty of time to cool first.
