My son and I set up a Little Free Library in front of our home as an opportunity to share books and joy with our neighbors and community. As a former English Language Arts and Reading Intervention teacher, I know that exposing young people to a print rich environment aids in developing a love of reading, acquisition of vocabulary, and an array of literacy skills like phonemic awareness. Being involved in our Little Free Library keeps my son excited about books and creates a print rich environment for both him and other kids in our community.
To keep my son and neighbors engaged in our Little Free Library, Moose and I worked together to get it ready for Valentine’s Day. I’ve included some of the ideas we implemented so that you can celebrate and share the love of reading with your neighbors, plus FREE printable Library Card Valentines!

Blind Date With A Book
A blind date with a book was my favorite idea for our Little Free Library for Valentine’s Day. We chose several books from different genres to wrap in Kraft paper. On the outside of the kraft paper we wrote some keys words about the contents of each book, including the genre.
As an extra treat, we taped different varieties of herbal tea to the outside of each adult novel and heart shaped stickers to the children’s books.

Valentine’s Day Themed Goodies
In addition to books, we stocked our little free library with a few Valentine’s Day goodies for the kiddos. This pack of pencils and stickers are an affordable way to add some color and joy to your library. We displayed the pencils in a mason jar and propped the stickers up behind them.

Valentine’s Day Themed Books
Valentine’s Day themed books are a fun way to get into the spirit of the holiday of love. Here are some of our favorites to include in your LFL:

- How Do Dinosaurs Say I Love You is one of Moose’s favorite books. We read it several times a week.
- Guess How Much I Love You is a classic and one of my favorite childhood books.
- I Love You Like No Otter
- Little Blue Truck’s Valentine
- Llama Llama I Love You
- Where Do Diggers Say I Love You?
Middle Grades Books
Adult Novels
- A Victim At Valentines (Mystery)
- To Hell With Fate; Or Why The Best Valentine’s Gifts Come From Mini Marts (Romance)
- Peach Cobbler Murder (Mystery)
- Love Finds You In Valentine, Nebraska (Christian Romance)
- Dad Jokes Valentine’s Day Gift Book (Comedy)
Color Themed Books
If curating your little free library with Valentine’s Day themed books isn’t for you, why not go through your inventory and pick out books with pink and red book covers? This would be such a cute way to decorate your LFL and get into the holiday spirit.
