DIY Bubbles Recipe For Kids
Making your own DIY bubbles at home with simple pantry ingredients is a super fun, easy, and cost effective summer activity for kids. This recipe fills two 4 oz bubble bottles.
Bubble Science
Turn this simple DIY bubble recipe into a fun science experiment!
A bubble is a thin layer of soapy water surrounding a pocket of air. The film that makes the bubble is a layer of water trapped between two soap molecules.
We add sugar to our bubble solution because the sugar dissolves in the water, making the bubble solution thicker. This slows the evaporation of the water from your bubbles. Since bubbles pop when the water evaporates, adding sugar creates bubbles that last longer before popping!
How To Make Your Own DIY Bubbles
- In a small bowl, combine 6 Tablespoons of granulated sugar, 12 Tablespoons of warm water, and 3 Tablespoons of Dawn dish soap.
- Mix well until the sugar is dissolved.

3. Use a funnel to pour the bubble solution into bottles. This recipe fills two 4 oz bubble bottles.

Let Your Little One Help
Even the littlest of helpers can make this bubble solution by measuring the ingredients, pouring the ingredients into the bowl, and mixing. For toddlers, measuring, pouring, and mixing help develop their fine motor skills. You can also use this lesson to practice math or ratios. Moose helped count the number of tablespoons for each ingredient.
Using Your Bubbles
This recipe works well with a regular bubble wand, but we were on a different mission. Moose had gotten a Bluey bubble machine for his birthday that came with a special bottle of bubbles. After those bubbles ran out, I bought a giant bottle of bubble solution from the Dollar Tree and a couple of smaller bubble bottles from Wal Mart. Unfortunately, for some reason, none of these bubble solutions worked in the Bluey bubble machine and Moose was heartbroken. We spent a couple of days working on different recipes for a DIY bubble solution before we landed on this one. This recipe works well with a regular bubble wand as well as in different types of bubble blowing toys.
