Easy and Decadent Candied Sweet Potatoes

Indulge in the ultimate comfort food with my irresistible recipe for candied sweet potatoes—where tender sweet potatoes meet a luscious brown sugar glaze, baked to perfection. Just three ingredients and a little oven time transform simple yams into a side dish sensation!

What is the difference between candied yams and candied sweet potatoes?

While the terms are often used interchangeably, yams and sweet potatoes come from two very different families. Yams aren’t as sweet as sweet potatoes and often have a starchier texture more similar to traditional potatoes. This recipe, which came from my mom, originally called for yams. However, since I grow sweet potatoes in my garden, I have been using sweet potatoes for this recipe for over a decade. I prefer the consistency and flavor of sweet potatoes for this recipe, but yams can also be used.

How to Make Candied Sweet Potatoes

This recipe is incredibly simple to make. Traditionally my family makes candied sweet potatoes for special occasions like Thanksgiving and Christmas. However, this side dish is so quick and easy to whip up that I often make it during the week as long as we have sweet potatoes in our garden.

  1. Start by peeling and slicing 2-3 sweet potatoes.
